The Team
for the Danube swim
Joseph lives in Dresden and works as an authorized signatory at AMS Fuhrparkmanagement GmbH. Nine years ago, he discovered his passion for long-distance swimming. It all started with various 24-hour swims. At the end of 2016, he swam from Europe to Africa across the Strait of Gibraltar. In 2017, he crossed Lake Constance, which borders three countries, swam 620 km across the Elbe River, and crossed the Strait of Bonifacio (Sardinia to Corsica). In 2018, he swam across Germany's ten largest lakes.
Then came the Rhine—1,300 km from its source to its mouth. This was followed by crossing the Fehmarn Belt from Germany to Denmark and circumnavigating Lake Constance in five days.
His next big goal: in 2026, he wants to swim the entire length of the Danube – from its source to its mouth, over 2,800 km.
Stefanie is Joseph's partner—in life and in the project. Long before the first swim across the Danube, she has been supporting him in every way possible: whether it's organization, planning, or spontaneous solutions in everyday life – Stefanie is always there. During the project, she is responsible for social media and ensures that everyone back home can follow the journey live. With her calm, intelligent manner and incredible resilience, she is an indispensable part of the team.
Captain Heiko combines John Maynard and MacGyver in one person. He is not only skilled at sailing, but could also craft a new wetsuit for Joseph using fishing line, construction foam, and a coat hanger. He is our calming influence, coordinator, and helping hand in every conceivable situation. His favorite activity is applying sunscreen and petroleum jelly to Joseph...not!
Whitewater expert, record hunter, and Rhine connoisseur Thorsten Arp accompanied Joseph and guided him through the most difficult sections of the Rhine. Thorsten is not only an extreme athlete (kayaking), but also a multiplier and networker. He effortlessly establishes contacts with everyone who is anyone in the world of water sports.
Dani steers the caravan with the precision of a rally driver and provides the crew with food, humor, and nerves of steel. After 50 kilometers in the water, she is our safe haven—with warm food, dry clothes, and the perfect playlist.
She keeps us happy, prevents nervous breakdowns, and could rub sunscreen on Joseph... but she doesn't, because she has more important things to do!
